The University of Miami College of Engineering was founded in 1925 as the School of Engineering and Architecture. It was the first engineering school in the state of Florida, and it has remained an integral part of the University ever since. Over the years, the College has grown to include seven departments: Biomedical Engineering, Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Industrial Engineering; Computing Sciences; and Materials Science & Engineering. The College also offers several minors, including materials science and engineering, robotics engineering, sustainable energy technologies, computer science and engineering, and more.

In addition to its rigorous academic programs, the College is also highly involved in research initiatives that benefit both industry partners as well as students through hands-on experience. The College’s many research centers include the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS), which focuses on developing solutions for electric power systems; the Center for Computational Science (CCS), which explores high-performance computing solutions for data-intensive problems; and the Center for Energy Studies (CES), which studies energy efficiency technologies in buildings.
