What is Article Spinning?

According to nonprofitdictionary, article spinning, also known as text spinning, describes the automated creation of texts, usually with the help of special spinning software. The aim is to create several texts in a short time from one text with the help of synonyms. This method is used, for example, for article marketing or for creating product texts for similar products.

The method

Texts are created automatically, but a template – the original text, so to speak – still has to be created yourself. Once this has been written, the actual spinning procedure begins: synonyms are created for every word, every phrase, every part of a sentence. The more synonyms, of course, the more texts you get in the end.

Spinning software

Synonym finding can be automated with the help of special spinning software, so-called article spinners or text spinners. The software also helps to evaluate the uniqueness of the newly created texts. The spinning software is based on extensive synonym databases. One example is the Article Spinning Wizard.

Spinning tools are based on the so-called Spintax, a markup language similar to HTML. For example, a sentence partially with spun parts looks like this:

The aim is to create several texts {in a short time | without great effort | quickly} from one {text | article} with the help of synonyms.

Spinning software makes it easier to reproduce the texts, but depending on the quality of the tool, it also brings with it problems that not every synonym fits into the context of the meaning of the text. It can happen, for example, that replacing a word changes the meaning of the sentence or does not fit into the context of the sentence. These problems often arise with partial synonyms, ie with words that do not match in all meanings, such as “man” and “gentleman”, “horse” and “steed”. Even with homonyms like “Bank”, “Ball” or “Strauss” errors are inevitable.

Modern spinning tools are able to see words and phrases in the context of the meaning of the entire text and therefore to choose appropriate synonyms. In addition, some tools integrate features such as WDF * IDF to optimize the texts for search engines.

Possible uses of spun articles

Article spinning is used on the one hand for link marketing, on the other hand for the creation of texts for landing pages or product pages. In link marketing, for example, texts for press portals, free blogs or bookmarks can be created. Spin texts for landing pages are often used, for example, in portals that require similar content for several cities, such as voucher portals, job portals, or delivery service portals.

Text spinning vs. copyright

A spun-off text by another author no longer has the same wording, but this process is still considered a copyright infringement in most countries. After all, the spinning text contains the same ideas, thoughts and conclusions.

Rating by Google

The question of copyright does not play a role when spinning your own texts, but the question of the benefit for SEO does. You should also consider whether a text generated in this way will still be of use to the reader.

Google can now very well recognize the correspondence of texts, even if they differ from each other solely based on the words used. Because when checking for duplicate content, numerous linguistic factors are included, in particular semantic factors. Webbed texts, in which only the individual words have been replaced by synonyms, are now very easily recognizable by Google’s algorithms.

It becomes more difficult for the search engine with texts in which entire parts of sentences, sentences or even paragraphs have been exchanged. Changing the sentence structure, for example from a combination of subordinate clause and main clause to a simple main clause, increases the uniqueness of a text.

Nevertheless, it is advisable to avoid spinning texts, as the Google algorithms are constantly improving and texts with similar content are consequently more and more easily recognized as spinning texts.
