The University of Connecticut School of Engineering was established in 1900. It was originally part of the College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, which was founded in 1881. The School of Engineering began as a two-year program, offering courses in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering. Over the years, the school continued to expand its curriculum and research opportunities. In 1946, the school was granted full accreditation by the Engineering Council for Professional Development (ECPD). This allowed the school to offer Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in several engineering disciplines.

In 1965, the University of Connecticut School of Engineering became an independent entity within UConn with its own dean and faculty. Since then, it has grown to become one of the nation’s top public engineering schools with over 5100 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The University of Connecticut School of Engineering has an impressive admissions rate of over 55%. The school has a highly selective admissions process and requires applicants to have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Additionally, students must submit their SAT or ACT scores and at least two letters of recommendation. For those applying as transfer students, they must have completed at least 24 college credits with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher. The school also offers conditional admission for applicants who don’t meet the requirements but may still be eligible for admission based on their academic record and other factors.
