University of California Irvine Henry Samueli School of Engineering

The University of California Irvine Henry Samueli School of Engineering was established in 1965 as the first public engineering school in Orange County. It was part of the larger UC Irvine campus, which was founded two years prior in 1963. The school is renowned for its research and teaching excellence, as well as its commitment to producing leaders in engineering and technology.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the School of Engineering grew rapidly to become one of the largest public engineering schools in California. In 1989, the school received a major gift from Henry and Susan Samueli establishing an endowment for faculty support and student scholarships. As a result, the school was renamed to honor their generosity – The Henry Samueli School of Engineering.

In 1997, the school opened its new home – The Donald Bren Hall – which houses faculty offices, classrooms, laboratories and support facilities. Since then, world-class research has been conducted at UCI’s School of Engineering in areas such as digital signal processing and computer networks.

The School has also made significant strides in providing students with experiential learning opportunities both locally and abroad through internships, study abroad programs and service learning projects. Today, UCI’s Henry Samueli School of Engineering continues to be a leader in technological innovation with its graduates making significant contributions to industry throughout Southern California and beyond.
