Tufts University School of Engineering

Tufts University School of Engineering was founded in 1898 as the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering. The school started out with just two professors and four students. In the beginning, the school focused on teaching engineering fundamentals and providing instruction in civil engineering. As the years passed, the school added more departments such as electrical engineering, chemical engineering, and material science. By 1950, Tufts had become a full-fledged university with a School of Engineering offering degrees in multiple disciplines. Tufts engineers have gone on to become leaders in many fields, including transportation, energy production, medical device design, and robotics. In addition to its educational programs, the School of Engineering has been actively involved in research projects across a variety of fields. In recent years, these projects have included renewable energy sources such as solar power, fuel cells for cars and aircrafts; biomedical devices for prosthetics; nanotechnology; and computer vision systems for autonomous vehicles. The School of Engineering also encourages students to become involved in extracurricular activities such as research clubs or working on student-run projects that can help further their knowledge outside of their coursework. Through these experiences students develop valuable skills that will help them succeed in their future careers.
