According to itypemba, Garfield County, Washington is located in the southeastern part of the state, bordering Idaho and Oregon. It was established in 1883 from the eastern portion of Whitman County, and named after James A. Garfield, the 20th president of the United States. The county covers an area of about 1,260 square miles and has an estimated population of approximately 4,500 people (as of 2020). The county seat is located in Pomeroy, which is also the largest city in Garfield County. Other cities within the county include Asotin and Anatone. The county also includes several small communities such as Almota, Anatone, Clarkston Heights-Vineland and Touchet. The earliest settlers to Garfield County came to the area during the mid-1800s to take advantage of its lush agricultural lands. At that time, much of the land was used for raising livestock such as cattle and horses. Farming quickly became a primary source of income for many people living in Garfield County as they grew wheat and hay along with other crops such as corn and oats. In addition to farming, logging was also a popular industry throughout much of Garfield County’s history due to its abundance of timber resources. Logging camps were set up throughout the region with many small towns springing up around them to support this industry. By 1900, logging had become one of Garfield County’s most important industries with railroads built throughout much of it for transporting logs out to other regions for processing or export purposes. Today, agriculture remains a major part of life in Garfield County although it has evolved over time from primarily livestock production into a more diversified mix including grains (wheat), hay/alfalfa production along with some fruit trees (apples) as well as vegetable crops (potatoes). Logging is still an important industry here too although it has shifted away from mainly harvesting old growth forests towards more sustainable practices such as selective cutting or thinning operations that leave mature trees standing while allowing younger ones to grow back into healthy stands again over time. Tourism has also become increasingly popular in recent years due to its many attractions including several historical sites related to early settlers who lived here during pioneer times along with numerous outdoor recreational activities such as fishing on nearby rivers or hiking on trails through nearby mountains or forests among other things. All these factors have helped make Garfield County an attractive destination for those looking for a unique place to explore or relax. Garfield County, Washington encompasses a total area of 2,266 square miles and is home to a population of 4,741 people. The county’s school district consists of five public schools – four elementary schools and one high school. Garfield High School serves as the county’s only secondary educational institution and is located in the city of Pomeroy. The school offers a comprehensive academic program including core subjects such as English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language. In addition to these core subjects, students have the opportunity to take classes in the arts or participate in athletic activities such as football or basketball. Garfield High School also provides career-oriented programs such as automotive technology and health sciences. Students are encouraged to pursue their interests through extracurricular activities like student government or robotics club. A strong emphasis is placed on developing an appreciation for the arts with classes like drawing and painting offered at all grade levels. The district also provides an array of support services for students with special needs and those from low-income households. These services include counseling, tutoring, special education programs, English Language Learner (ELL) services, and free/reduced lunch options.
