According to itypemba, Kent County, Rhode Island is a county located in the state of Rhode Island. It was one of the five original counties established in 1703 when the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations was created. The county was named after Kent County, England, from which many early settlers originated. The county is home to some of the oldest towns in Rhode Island including Warwick, East Greenwich, and West Greenwich. The earliest settlers were primarily farmers who were attracted to the area for its fertile land and temperate climate. As the population increased so did industry such as mills and shipbuilding which brought more people to Kent County. During the American Revolution, Kent County played an important role in providing resources and support to General George Washington’s troops as they marched across Rhode Island en route to their victory at Yorktown. In more recent years, Kent County has become an important part of Rhode Island’s economy with industries such as finance and insurance having a significant presence in the area. Additionally, many residents commute to Providence for work or school while still living in Kent County due to its close proximity to the capital city. Kent County, Rhode Island is served by two school districts: the Chariho Regional School District and the Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School District. The Chariho Regional School District serves the towns of Charlestown, Richmond, Hopkinton, and Westerly. The district has six schools including three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and an alternative education program. The Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School District serves the towns of Exeter and West Greenwich. This district has five schools including three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Both districts offer a wide range of educational opportunities for their students including a variety of academic courses as well as extracurricular activities such as athletics and band. In addition to public schools, Kent County is also home to several private schools including St. Michael’s Academy in East Greenwich and St. Mary’s Academy in West Warwick. Both of these schools offer a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for college or other post-secondary education options such as trade or technical schools.
