According to itypemba, Cameron County, Pennsylvania is located in the north-central part of the state. It was created in 1860 from parts of Elk and Clearfield Counties, and was named for Senator Simon Cameron. Cameron County has a population of 5,085 people according to the 2010 U.S. Census. The county seat is Emporium, which is also its largest city. The first settlers in the area were Native Americans, who were attracted by its abundant wildlife and scenic beauty. The first European settlers arrived in 1795 and began to clear the land for farming and timbering operations. By 1800, several small villages had been established throughout Cameron County including Emporium, Sinnemahoning, Driftwood, and Portage Township. During the 19th century, many industries began to develop in Cameron County including lumber mills, tanneries, sawmills, gristmills and distilleries. The lumber industry was especially important as it provided much needed lumber for building homes and other structures throughout Pennsylvania as well as other states such as Ohio and New York. With the development of these industries came jobs for many people who moved to Cameron County from other parts of Pennsylvania or even other states looking for work opportunities. By 1900 railroads had been built connecting many towns within Cameron County with each other as well as with larger cities such as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia making it easier for people to travel between them and take advantage of new business opportunities that developed due to this increased transportation access. Today, Cameron County is still an agricultural area although many industries have come and gone since its founding over two hundred years ago. It is home to many small towns and villages, which are great places to visit if you want to experience a slower pace of life and enjoy the beauty of the area. In addition, Cameron County is also known for its educational programs which prepare children for both college or the workforce after high school graduation while providing them with extracurricular activities that allow them to explore their interests outside of class time. The Cameron County School District is the largest public school system in the county, serving over 3,500 students in grades K-12. The district consists of six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and one alternative education center. The district has a long history of academic excellence and is committed to providing an excellent education for all students. These activities provide students with an opportunity to explore their interests outside of the classroom while developing important life skills such as teamwork and collaboration.
