According to itypemba, Harding County, New Mexico is located in the southeastern corner of the state and is home to a population of approximately 1,000 residents. The county was named after U.S. President Warren G. Harding and was established in 1921. Prior to becoming a county, the area that is now Harding County was used by nomadic Native American tribes such as the Apache and Navajo for hunting and gathering food sources. As settlers began to move into the area in the late 1800s, they began to establish ranches and farms in what would eventually become Harding County. In 1921, Harding County was officially formed from parts of Union and Colfax Counties with Roy as its county seat. It remained largely rural throughout much of its history with its economy based on agriculture, ranching and mining. The county also had a strong tourism industry due to its proximity to Santa Fe and other nearby attractions such as Taos Ski Valley and the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. In recent years, Harding County has seen an influx of new residents due to its access to recreational activities such as skiing, fishing, hiking, camping and more. It is also home to several historic sites including Fort Union National Monument which preserves an old Civil War fort built in 1851. With its rich history and plenty of outdoor activities available for visitors and residents alike, Harding County makes for a great place to live or visit.
