The county was originally part of Baltimore County until it was formed in 1773. Harford County is named after the English county of Hertfordshire, which was the birthplace of one of the original settlers, Henry Harford. The county also boasts several parks including Rocks State Park which features over 855 acres of forested land for visitors to explore.
