According to itypemba, Middlesex County is located in south-central Connecticut and is bordered by Hartford County to the north and New London County to the east. It is home to a population of about 165,000 people, making it the second most populous county in Connecticut. The county was established in 1785 and named after Middlesex, England. The area that now makes up Middlesex County was originally inhabited by the Mohegan Native Americans and later by European settlers from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 1650, the towns of Middletown, Saybrook and Lyme were established, with Middletown becoming the county seat in 1785. The town of East Haddam was also founded in 1734 and became an important port for trade with New York City and other parts of the Northeast. The East Haddam Public Schools District serves approximately 1,800 students in grades pre-K through 8 and consists of 2 elementary schools and 1 middle school.
