Portland State University Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science was founded in 2001. Prior to this, the college was known as the Portland State University School of Engineering and Computer Science. The school had been part of Portland State University since 1971, but it wasn’t until 2001 that it was officially recognized as a college. In its early years, the college focused on providing students with a comprehensive education in engineering and computer science that prepared them to enter the workforce or pursue further education. Over time, the focus shifted to developing research-based education programs that prepared students for careers in industry, government and academia.

Today, the college offers 21 undergraduate degree programs and 16 master’s degree programs across seven departments: Civil & Environmental Engineering; Electrical & Computer Engineering; Mechanical & Materials Engineering; Computer Science; Industrial & Systems Engineering; Biomedical Engineering; and Software Engineering. Additionally, there are 10 associated research centers which provide students with opportunities to work on state-of-the-art projects in their field of study. These research centers are working on cutting edge projects such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
