The Oklahoma State University College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) began in 1893 as the School of Mines and Metallurgy. This was the first engineering school in the state, and it offered two-year programs leading to certificates in electrical, mechanical, civil and mining engineering. In 1907, the school was renamed Oklahoma A&M College School of Engineering and offered its first four-year degree program. During this time, programs in agricultural engineering, architectural engineering and industrial engineering were added. In 1966, the school was renamed College of Engineering to better reflect its expanded scope of programs.
In 1971, the college underwent a major expansion with the addition of architecture and technology programs. This allowed CEAT to offer degree programs in industrial technology management; civil engineering technology; construction science; electrical & computer engineering; mechanical & aerospace engineering; architecture & environmental design; biological & agricultural engineering; chemical & materials science engineering; computer science & software engineering; energy systems management; fire protection systems technology and geomatics. The college has continued to expand since then with new research centers opening up such as the Center for Advanced Studies in Energy Efficiency (CASE), Center for Environmental Measurement (CEM) and Center for Autonomous Vehicle Research (CAVR). The college is now home to more than 4,000 students pursuing degrees ranging from associate’s degrees up through doctoral studies.
