The North Carolina A&T State University College of Engineering was founded in 1972 by the North Carolina General Assembly. It was the first historically black college engineering program in the United States. The college has grown significantly since its inception and now offers seven undergraduate degrees, nine master’s degrees, and two doctoral degrees. It is also home to the only National Science Foundation-funded Center of Excellence in Biomedical Engineering Education and Research (CBMEER).
The College of Engineering has achieved many milestones since its founding, including the establishment of the nation’s first National Science Foundation-funded Biomedical Engineering Research Center in 1995 and an NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates program in 2002.
