The Michigan Technological University College of Engineering was founded in 1903 as the Michigan College of Mines. It began as a mining school, offering a two-year degree in mining engineering. In 1927, the college was renamed to Michigan Technological University and the curriculum was expanded to include four year degrees in civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and forestry. The college has since grown to offer over 20 different undergraduate and graduate degree programs in fields such as aerospace engineering, computer science and materials science.
