Louisiana State University Baton Rouge College of Engineering was established in 1908 as the Louisiana State University Department of Engineering. It was the first engineering school in the South and one of only a handful in the nation. The College began with two faculty members, Professor E.E. Brown and Professor T.T. Allain, and two students, William Eads and Robert Lecompte. The first class graduated from LSU in 1912 with a degree in Civil Engineering, which remains one of the most popular programs at the college today.
