Lamar University College of Engineering was first established in 1966 as the Department of Engineering Technology. This department was created to offer students a comprehensive engineering education focused on the development of problem-solving skills through hands-on learning experiences. The department quickly grew and in 1972, the College of Engineering was established with the mission to provide quality engineering education and prepare students for professional practice. In 1978, the College was authorized to grant bachelor’s degrees in civil, electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering. Since then, the college has grown significantly and now offers seven undergraduate degree programs as well as three master’s degree programs in civil engineering and one doctoral program in mechanical engineering. The college has also been accredited by ABET since 1981. Today, Lamar University College of Engineering continues to be an innovative leader in providing students with a quality education that allows them to pursue their dreams and become successful professionals.
