The George Mason University Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering (Volgenau School) was established in 1988 as the George Mason University Center for Information and Technology. Initially, the school was located in Prince William Campus, and its primary focus was to provide computer-related courses. Over the years, the school has expanded its offerings to include undergraduate and graduate degrees in information technology, engineering, and related fields. In 2005, the school moved to its current location at Fairfax Campus and was renamed Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering after a generous donation from Robert E. Volgenau.
Since then, the Volgenau School has grown into one of the most highly regarded schools of its kind in the country.
