The College of Engineering and Computing at Florida International University was established in 1965 as the Institute of Technology. The Institute offered bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In 1986, the college was renamed the College of Engineering and Technology, and it began offering new degree programs in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Nuclear Engineering. In 2002, the college was once again renamed to its current name, the College of Engineering and Computing.

Since then, the college has expanded its program offerings to include a variety of undergraduate degrees such as Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical & Biochemical Engineering and Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences.
