The College of Engineering at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) was founded in 1961 by Dr. John O. Merrill, the first Dean of the College. Originally known as the School of Engineering and Technology, it was one of the original five colleges that comprised the newly established university. The college has grown significantly since its inception and now offers 14 undergraduate degrees, 11 master’s degrees, and 2 doctoral degrees across 9 different departments. The college has also been awarded numerous grants and research awards over the years and is one of only two universities in California to be designated as a National Center for Excellence in Aviation Research by NASA.
